A Brighter Community A Brighter Community, Inc. is a non-profit, United Way supported, nationally accredited preschool and family support program. Through community collaborations we offer access to speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and mental health counseling. We serve economically and environmentally at-risk children, ages 3 - 5 years. We are one of 5 contracted Head Start sites in Hillsborough County, and we offer a before and after school program. Fees are based on a sliding scale; each family pays fees based on total family income and the number of people who live in the household. Our parents must be working, going to school, or in a job training program in order for their child to receive services at A Brighter Community.

Child Abuse Council The Child Abuse Council has been serving thousands of families in Hillsborough County since 1977 through education, prevention and treatment programs. Child Care Resource and Referrals (CCR&R) Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) is a community service organization that works with parents, child care providers, businesses, and community organizations to help promote the availability of quality child care services in the area. CCR&R has a database of all child care and early education programs in Hillsborough County. Child Care Resource Specialists do not endorse or recommend any provider or type of care. CCR&R serves parents by providing a computer generated list of child care providers based on the needs of the family, information on choosing quality care and information on financial assistance for child care.

Children’s Board of Hillsborough County The voters of Hillsborough County gave the Children’s Board a mandate in October 1988 when they voted to increase ad valorum property taxes for children and families in our community. The Children’s Board is committed to building the necessary conditions in Hillsborough County for all children to flourish. Since our inception we have leveraged our resources to best address the critical needs of children and families. In fact, over the last five years the Children’s Board has invested $13 million to generate $73 million in new dollars--a return of $5.54 for every $1 invested. Services and supports funded by the Children’s Board constitute the building blocks for healthy futures for children and families, and also provide a substantial economic return on taxpayer investment.

Federation of Families – Hillsborough County The Federation of Families is a national parent-run organization formed in 1989 as a grass roots initiative by parents to address funding, legislative agendas, treatment issues, best practices, and other national agenda issues that address the needs of children with mental health, behavioral and emotional needs. The Federation promotes that parents are the experts of their children and must be treated as equal partners through the planning and delivery of services for their children. Healthy Start - Family Support & Resource Centers Family Support & Resource Centers (FSRCs) are designed to help families and communities become happier, healthier and stronger. FSRCs embrace the principles of family support and are governed through the shared leadership of families, community members, community stakeholders, staff and others. Services include programs designed to assist families and communities in: increasing awareness of health and safety; increasing family literacy from pre-literacy through adulthood; increasing self-sufficiency by developing life skills; enhancing employability and job readiness skills; providing parent education; enhancing child development; and enhancing parent-child attachment. Hillsborough County Head Start/Early Head Start
Hillsborough County Head Start/Early Head Start provides individualized services in the areas of early childhood development and education; medical, dental, developmental disabilities, and mental health; nutrition; parent involvement and family support. In operation since 1965, the program partners with families and the community to build a foundation for self-reliance. Head Start is based in the community, with 19 County-operated centers, 4 child care partner sites, 5 family child care homes operated by NOVA Southeastern University, and 45 classrooms operated by the school district all spread throughout Hillsborough County.

Help U Grow “HUG” Program The “HUG” Program provides screening and support to families whose baby/babies are currently in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or have recently been discharged. Our vision is that all NICU families will have universal access to parent support and special developmental education needed to promote the healthy development of their baby. Hillsborough County Public Library - Early Literacy The Early Literacy Department of the Hillsborough County Public Library provides literacy related services to children birth to age 5 and their parent/caregivers. We offer parents/caregiver programs on reading to children, distribute books to local agencies, provide an Adaptive Toy collection for special needs children and assist with the Imagination Library free book program.

Hispanic Services Council (HSC) HSC assists Hispanic families in their successful integration into the community through bilingual and bicultural support services, education and advocacy. HSC provides case management, information and referral, ESL, U. S. Infants and Young Children of W. Central Florida Infants & Young Children of West Central Florida, Inc. known as IYC operates the provider network for the Bay Area Early Steps region and serves as the network’s fiscal agent. Early Intervention, Therapy Services, and Family Support Services are networked through IYC. This includes Provider and Family Workshops, Equipment and Adaptive Toy Lending Libraries as well as direct services. Metropolitan Ministries For over 35 years Metropolitan Ministries has served poor and homeless men, women, and children in the Tampa Bay region. We serve approximately 80 families daily through Outreach Services, with a dramatic increase during the Holiday Season. Nova Southeastern University’s Mailman Segal Institute Tampa MSI Tampa provides technical assistance and training to classroom personnel and directors of early childhood centers in order to enhance program quality. Projects include assistance to programs seeking national accreditation, management training for directors as well as Early Reading First projects (funded by the US Dept. of Education) aimed at improving the literacy and language skills of low income preschool children. MSI Tampa is funded solely by grants and contracts. Project PITCH has been funded by the Children’s Board since 1991.

Rural Social Services Partnership, Inc. RSSP’s mission is to develop a network of individuals and agencies who will advocate for the underserved in Hillsborough County. Shriners Hospitals for Children - Tampa Shriners Hospitals for Children is a one-of-a kind pediatric hospital system. Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention for Young Children @ USF ( TACSEI) TACSEI is a continuation and expansion of the work of the Center for Evidence-Based Practice and gives decision makers, caregivers and service providers an enhanced awareness and understanding of, and ability to use, evidence-based practices for improving the social-emotional outcomes for young children with, or at risk for, delays or disabilities. TACSEI uses the widely endorsed Pyramid Model framework for promoting social-emotional competence and addressing challenging behavior as the conceptual model to deliver this important information.

University of South Florida’s Florida Kinship Center: Kin as Teachers Program Kin as Teachers is an early childhood education and family support program designed to serve relative caregivers raising children from birth to kindergarten entry. A few goals are to provide early detection of developmental problems, increases caregiver knowledge of development and enhance caregiver-child interactions.
